Popular indie band duo MGMT wants what is due to them...royalties for their track "Kids". MGMT claims that French President, Nicolas Sarkozy used the track in one of his campaign commercials without the band's permission. Sarkozy's party the UMP admitted to using it and offered one euro as a symbolic gesture. MGMT's lawyer Isabelle Wekstein called the offer "insulting":
"This offer is disrespectful of the rights of artists and authors. It is insulting. We are dealing with acts of counterfeiting, an infringement of intellectual property."
Ironically, this comes at a time when Sarkozy's party is working with the French Parliament to enforce tougher penalties for online sharing and piracy.
